LIFE
Born in a small village, Sankaraguptam in Andhra Pradesh on the 6th
of July 1930, Balamuralikrishna began his musical career at an age when most children cling
to their mother's apronstrings. His father Pattabiramayya was a well known musician and could
play the Flute, Violin and Veena and his mother Suryakantamma was an excellent Veena player.
So it is not surprising that he is also an enterprising instrumentalist who plays violin,
viola, Khanjira, veena, mridangam etc.
CAREER
"Music, when it flows from Balamuralikrishna you can realise what the crazy gopies felt
in their ecstasy of divine Love. To be born with music in his heart, to hold a recital
at his tender age of only eight Deepavalies, to be at once a master in many instruments
apart from his unfailing purit of voice, tal and rag: these are indeed preciously rare
in one single person unless he is a genius", wrote Swami Chinmayananda.
- Balamurali gave his first pulic concert when he was hardly eight.
- Before he was fifteen he become an enormously popular performing artist and profile vagaeyakara,
who composed songs in all the 72 Melakarta ragas.
- He has enriched carnatic music with hundreds of his compositions nearly four hundred to his
credit which include varnams, Kritis, Javalis, Devotional songs and thillans.
- Dr. Balamuralikrishna has the distinction of being the State Musician of Tamilnadu and
Andhra Pradesh, the Asthana Vidwan of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, Sringeri Peetam and
Adivyadhi Hara Baktha Anjaneya Swami Temple, Nanganallur.
- The new ragas credited to his name Mahati, Sumukham, Trisakthi, Omkari, Rohini,
Pratimadhyamavathi, Janasammodini, Manorama, Vallabhi, Lavangi etc. have raised storm in the
placid carnatic music circles.
- He innovated the Tala systems by introducing new principles
His greatest asset is his wonderfully vibrant, widely-ranged, magnetic voice over which he has perfect control at all times in all the three octaves. He sings with a sense of infectious happiness and a smiling facial expression with which he captivates his audience right from the very first note. With his crystal clear enunciation of the sahitya (lyric), the buoyant ever fresh quality of his vocalism, sparkling creativity, voice modulation and unpredictable swara-combination which flows with impressive ease, Balamuralikrishna mesmerises the audience.
MBK Trust has been established with Dr. Balamuralikrishna as its founder trustee with the object of developing of art and culture and to do extension research in Music Therapy, a dance and music school VIPANCHEE is a part of the trust and is run by his managing trustee Kalaimamani Saraswati.
